Stress‐gradient framework for green roofs: Applications for urban agriculture and other ecosystem services

چکیده
Abstract Green roofs are promoted to contribute more resilient cities by enhancing urban ecosystem services and food systems. Extensive, low‐maintenance green experience frequent environmental stresses, which reduce plant survival growth. Stress‐tolerant plants therefore used sustain well‐established services, such as building temperature regulation. However, transitioning extensive provide other key production, involves less tolerant species. Although facilitation exerted stress‐tolerant species (nurses) has been proposed improve the performance of stress‐intolerant (protégés) in roofs, conditions under could occur not well understood. Therefore, a comprehensive framework is needed that integrates current knowledge on how protégé affected nurse across stress conditions. We present for roof research results linear model (i) modern trait–environment theory (ii) ecology refined stress‐gradient hypothesis (SGH) originally developed following study stressful environments. Wildflower green roofs for urban landscaping, ecological sustainability and biodiversity
The aim of this trial was to test a wildflower roof in order to show how a country landscape fits in an urban environment. The bio-agronomic performance, the biodiversity dynamics during the two-years experiment, and the pollinating fauna, were analysed. Each plant group was able to efficiently colonize the surface of the roof though in different periods and with various modalities. Thermal ins...

متن کاملFrom Multifunctionality to Multiple Ecosystem Services? A Conceptual Framework for Multifunctionality in Green Infrastructure Planning for Urban Areas
Green infrastructure (GI) and ecosystem services (ES) are promoted as concepts that have potential to improve environmental planning in urban areas based on a more holistic understanding of the complex interrelations and dynamics of social-ecological systems. However, the scientific discourses around both concepts still lack application-oriented frameworks that consider such a holistic perspect...
